Around the cités universitaires

Let us wander around the university campus, taking in buildings by Fernand Pouillon and René Egger, and finding respite in a city within a city, where the passing of time and neo-classical, regional and modern influences can be seen. This trend is set to continue, with a vast regeneration project set to change the face of the city once more.

A Monolithic Update on Egger

Inaugurated in 2013, this building is a contemporary interpretation of Egger's architecture. Opalescent aluminum and glass fragments organized in a vertical grid, the two buildings stand as raw volumes, with their simple geometry and refined treatment, erected on a plain slab. The viewer's impression of a single monolith reflects the massive architecture of the Faculty of Letters' library. The two four-storey constructions house the multimedia collections, as well as a conference space and the administrative and research facilities dedicated to PhD students, researchers, and teaching faculty. The complex plays the modernity card, putting forward attention to detail.
